A holter monitor is a portable device that is used to diagnose heart disease. It provides a continuous recording of heart rhythm during normal activity for a typical period of 24 hours. The recorded information is then analyzed, and irregular heart activity is correlated with your activity at the time. It is particularly useful in diagnosing heart rhythm irregularities that would not be discovered during a routine EKG.
Holter monitoring is used to determine how the heart responds to normal activity. The monitor may also be used for the following:
- After a heart attack
- To diagnose heart rhythm problems
- When starting a new heart medicine
This procedure is available at our main Sarasota campus as well as our Wauchula and Arcadia locations.
